Information like titles or artist names, displayed by media players, are retrieved from tags, not file names. In certain situations, an audio file's tag information may be incomplete and as a result, the song will appear as an unknown title or artist in your media player. Tag Clinic can help you solve issues like this. It allows you to edit the tag information within your audio files and perform various operations. You can replace missing ID3v1 information, using ID3v2 details and vice-versa, retrieve tag information and lyrics from the Internet, rename files, based on their tags and much more.

The software is compatible with numerous Windows platforms, from the old and dusty Windows 98 to the recently released Windows 8. It comes in a small package and it can be installed in no time. Additionally, thanks to its modest hardware requirements, you can run the application even on outdated machines.

Tag Clinic's user interface may seem complex at first, but you should't have any problems mastering its controls if you take your time to experiment with the available functions. You can explore your local folders and browse through your audio files on the upper half of the window and edit their tag information on the lower half, in a table of contents. You can also switch between ID3v1 and MP3v2 tags, on the lower half of the interface. Options for batch renaming audio files can be displayed in the same area.

Audio files can be renamed instantly, using a series of name templates. Additionally, you can choose between different separator and bracket styles and set the file names to upper or lower case. The best part is that Tag Clinic allows you to create and save your own name templates, so you can rename your files however you want. As previously mentioned, the software will use tag details to rename the files. Before you hit the Rename button, you can preview the files, to make sure that the necessary tag information is available.

Tag details can be edited manually, in the table of contents, but the options that Tag Clinic places at your disposal are a faster and more reliable solution. Information from ID3v1 tags can be used to fill in blanks in ID3v2 tags and vice-versa. Additionally, you may number your tracks, convert tags, compress them, retrieve the play times of your tracks and much more. It is also possible to retrieve tag information from MusicBrainz. Once acquired, the data will be inserted automatically.

Pros

The software comes with a huge number of features, for batch editing tag information. It supports numerous tag and audio file formats. It allows you to perform various operations on multiple files and tag details with only a few clicks.

Cons

While in trial mode, Tag Clinic can be launched for a maximum number of times. With Tag Clinic, you can assign all the relevant information to your entire music collection.
